I am of the firm belief that packing correctly is the first step to a good vacation or trip of any kind. Doing this can save you a lot of stress later on when you are away from home and might not have access to some essentials like tooth paste and something even more important such as a medication. I make it a point of packing at least a day ahead of time so that I have everything ready and standing by the door before the day of the trip.
In my particular case (and probably most moms), I do the packing for the whole family…Husband, daughter, baby and myself so forgetting something like someone’s underwear is possible if you do not keep some kind of order.
I try to categorize everything and make sure those clothes, medications, sunscreen if applicable, diapers and baby essentials along with snacks are all taken care of.
A very important piece in this organization and travel preparedness is the toiletry bag that holds all your essentials and that is a key element to the trip. After all who wants to be miles away from a convenience store only to realize that you forgot to pack soap.
Packing the toiletry bag
Since I am packing for a few different people, I like to bring with me a large enough bag like the MelodySusie toiletry bag that allows me to hold the family essentials in one place so I can keep control of what is in there for each one of us and make sure we do have all the proper items.
In order to pack my toiletry bag, I do the same thing I do with the luggage and make a list of items that I must bring with me during the trip.
Use the list and check off all the items on it… As a visual help, you can lay down all the products on top of the bed and go over them one by one to make sure you did not forget to add something to your list.
Divide by categories
Separating the different items in your toiletry bag by categories always makes the process a lot easier and hassle free.
What should I include in my toiletry bag?
Well the basic bathroom essentials of course:
Tooth paste and tooth brush
Pepto or anything that might help with an upset stomach
Contact lenses and all you need for them if you wear contacts
Shampoo and conditioner if you do not want to be left to the mercy of whatever brand the hotel you will stay at has to offer.
I like to include mouth wash and floss along with cotton swaps.
Also, don’t forget any health related items:
Medications for adults and kids
Tylenol or Motrin
A couple of bandages
If going to a sunny destination make sure to include sunscreen and bug protection.
The proper toiletry bag
One important element to the correct packing of the toiletry bag is the bag itself and I found that a toiletry bag with different compartments that can be hung comes in real handy.
Finding the perfect toiletry bag
While a small or medium bag might be sufficient for one person, when you are packing for your family, something bigger is definitely the way to go and the hanging waterproof toiletry bag from MelodySusie worked really good for me and my family.
This bag features a water proof large capacity design with 23 different compartments in a variety of sizes to match your organizing needs.
I especially like the hanging and carrying design with a sturdy top hook that allows you to hang the bag from a shower or towel rack.
The bag also has a loop handle and an adjustable shoulder strap for extra carrying options.
Large and handy, certainly a nice addition to my travel gear and accessories.
Once you have decided what the best bag option is for you, you can start organizing all your essentials…One last tip, make sure that you have all you need in your bag preferably a couple of days before the trip in case you need to do a quick run to the pharmacy or convenience store!
